Illinois state trooper injured in car accident

A woman is facing a DUI charge following a crash that injured a state trooper on Sept. 6, according to local sources. The Illinois officer was sent to a local hospital following the car accident, and the 59-year-old woman has been charged with DUI, among other charges in association with the crash. Seven other individuals were also injured in the crash.

According to police reports, the collision took place around 2:46 p.m. The officer, who was outside of his vehicle conducting a traffic stop, was struck by the car operated by the woman. She then apparently attempted to flee the scene, causing a second car to roll over and injuring the seven occupants of that vehicle. Police caught up with the woman and arrested. She appeared in bail bond court the following day, where bail was set at $450,000.

The injured officer was rushed to a local hospital with injuries described as critical, but thankfully, attending medical personnel reported that his condition has since stabilized. The seven occupants of the rolled vehicle were also taken to local hospitals with unspecified injuries. Among them were an 83-year-old man and a 3-year-old boy.

When a car accident is attributed to drunk driving, the individual responsible is held to severe criminal punishment if found guilty. In this case, given the number of injuries caused, the woman in question will likely face considerable jail time should a conviction be secured. Additionally, the state trooper would be entitled to file a separate personal injury lawsuit against her in an Illinois civil court. The evidence gathered for the criminal proceedings can also be offered to support the civil suit.
