What are the common types of product defects?

There are very few people who never purchase anything from a manufacturer of some kind. Most people, in fact, spend their lives using products that they have purchased from a third-party. From clothing and food to cars and cars and homes, can be purchased premade from a supplier. When people rely on others to make products, they can find sometimes that those products are defective and can cause injuries. Some Illinois residents may ask -- what are the common types of product defects.

Under products liability laws, there are three main type of product defects. The first type of defect is a marketing defect. A marketing defect occurs when there is something wrong with the way a particular product is labeled that can lead to harm for consumers. Insufficient warnings and instructions, for example, are considered marketing defects.

The second kind of product defect is a manufacturing defect. A manufacturing defect occurs during the product's production process. It is some mistake while making the specific product that makes it dangerous. This means that it is possible for a manufacturing defect to occur in only certain products but not others manufactured by the company.

The third type of product defect is a design defect. A design defect is an inherent flaw with the product. It is something included in the design of the product that makes it unreasonable dangerous for consumers. If something is a design defect, that defect will be present in every one of the particular products.

When someone is injured by one of these types of product defects, a products liability suit can help the person recover damages for any injuries suffered. Depending on the facts in each case, there may be multiple parties to recover from including the manufacturer, the wholesaler or the retail store. An attorney can provide specific legal advice -- unlike this post -- for those injured by a dangerous product.
