Workers' compensation benefits in Illinois

Illinois workers often put their health and safety on the line when they are at work. There are times when people perform dangerous tasks in order to fulfill their duties. In some cases, these workers are involved in workplace accidents. These accidents lead to injuries, time away from work and possible disabilities. In these situations, the Illinois' workers' compensation system helps these workers.

Workers' compensation provides a variety of benefits for injured workers and their families. According to the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission most employees in Illinois will be eligible for these benefit if their injuries result in part or in whole from their work.

These benefits include the right to medical care for their injuries. This includes all medical care that is reasonably necessary to fix any effects of an injury suffered by an employee. Employees are also eligible for any vocational rehabilitation that is necessary following the injury.

The Commission also says that the benefits includes disability benefits for the employee while the person recovers from the injury and, therefore, cannot work. This is temporary total disability. Permanent total disability and permanent partial disability benefits are also available for employees who suffer some sort of disability -- either permanent or temporary -- as a result of the injuries sustained at work. Temporary partial disability benefits is also available for those employees that must work light duty as they recover from their injuries.

Furthermore, death benefits are available for the families of those workers who are killed as a result of a workplace accident.

While the available benefits may seem straightforward, it is often difficult to apply for them. An attorney can help injured workers and their families get the compensation they need after a work accident.
