Can technology reduce certain causes of truck accidents?

Illinois residents understand the important role the trucking industry plays in intrastate and interstate commerce. However, this does not erase the fact that these massive vehicles also pose many risks and dangers on the roadways across the nation. Because of this, truck safety is a highly contentious issue, with new technology being developed each year to address the factors that lead to truck accidents.

Can technology reduce certain causes of truck accidents? While there are various causes of truck accidents, one factor that has been difficult to address is preventing accidents when smaller automobiles pass semi-trucks and tractor-trailer trucks on the road. Trucks as very large and can block the view of motorists traveling behind and next to them. Because of this, drivers oftentimes do not see oncoming vehicles when they attempt to pass a truck on the road.

In order to address this danger and risk of accident, Samsung developed "Safety Truck." This technology involves a camera attached to the front of the front of the truck and a monitor located on the back of the truck. The goal is to help those driving behind the truck see what the truck driver sees.

This technology can work day and night and allows motorists to have a better view when attempting to pass a truck ahead of them on the road. Additionally, this technology also has the advantage to signal hazards ahead of the truck that could cause the truck driver to decrease speed or to suddenly break. While this technology is still in the testing phase, it is already apparent that it has the ability to save lives. Some technology challenges still need to be overcome before transport companies could put it to use, as it is a major investment.

Although technology has proven to help reduce truck accidents, these accidents still occur. In these situations, it is imperative to understand cause and fault in the crash. This could help injured victims place liability on a negligent truck driver or trucking company.
