Dangerous toys this holiday season

Parents across Illinois are busy preparing for the holiday season. Many know that their children are expecting an array of fun and engaging toys this year. While children have their own expectations, parents also have theirs. Parents expect the toys that they purchase will be safe for their children to use. Parents don't want to have to worry about toys that can be potentially hazardous to their children.

Sadly, not all toys are safe. Many pose health problems and safety concerns for children of all ages. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has some tips that parents need to keep in mind as new toys enter their homes this year.

First, parents need to remember that many small toys can present a choking hazard to young children. For children under the age of 3, many small objects can be choked on. In particular, parents should be aware that small balls and balloons present a hazard. These things should be kept away from children.

Additionally, toys with a strong magnetic pull can also be very dangerous. In particular, if these toys are swallowed they can be deadly. Children under 14-years-old should not use these types of toys.

Finally, the CPSC warns that children should be equipped with the proper safety gear when using certain toys. For example, children should wear helmets, pads and other protections when riding on bikes or scooters to help prevent serious injuries.

It is a manufacturer's responsibility to ensure that products are safe for children. When a product is dangerous, a manufacturer can be held legally responsible for any damages caused by the products. Dangerous children's toys can cause a range of problems. Victims and their families may need to explore their legal options.
