Young boy injured in garbage truck accident in Illinois

Illinois residents encounter large trucks on the roadways in various situations. Whether a motorist is traveling on a major road, a rural road or in a residential area, semi-trucks, tractor-trailer trucks and delivery trucks are frequently encountered. Residential areas also see delivery trucks and garbage trucks travel near pedestrians and cyclists. Because of that, truck drivers need to be cautious of other vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists that might be in the vicinity.

Authorities in Illinois were recently dispatched to a garbage truck accident in a residential neighborhood in Fairview Heights. According to preliminary reports, the truck accident occurred when a 5-year-old boy who was riding his bike was struck by a garbage truck.

Police believe that the young boy was riding his bike in the street when the garbage truck was traveling by the young boy. Reports indicate that the just prior to the collision the driver had just completed a trash pickup at a residence. After getting back into the truck and traveling a short distance to the next residence, the driver struck the child.

The young boy suffered serious injuries to his lower body, has undergone one surgery and is listed in critical condition. The Illinois State Police has not issued any citations at this time and an investigation is still ongoing. The company that owns the garbage truck is conducting their own investigation as well.

While an accident involving a large truck can be tragic, it is important to understand the cause of the crash. This could help understand what party or parties are liable, helping those who are injured in the incident collect the compensation that is owed to them.
