Illinois construction worker burned in gas line explosion

Workplace accidents are very dangerous in Illinois as in across the country. Employers are supposed to take precautions to avoid these accidents and keep workers safe. However, many workers are still put at risk when their employers fail to follow basic safety regulations. When this happens, many employees across the state suffer serious and life-threatening injuries.

Recently, a worker in Illinois was hurt in a workplace accident. In this case, the worker was part of a construction crew that damaged a natural gas line during their construction work. When the steel gas line was damaged, it caused an explosion. As a result, flames shot up high into the air. The worker was subsequently burned.

Police and rescue workers quickly worked to isolate the damage to the natural gas line and shut off gas in the area. Several parked cars in the area caught on fire and exploded as result of the initial gas line damage. Police are working to determine whether or not the construction crew had used a locator before starting to dig in that particular area. The locator is a free service that allows people to know the location of underground pipes are before they begin a digging project. This simple safety precaution can help to prevent devastating worker injuries.

It is important that construction crews like this one follow all safety regulations, like using a locator, prior to starting their work. When workplace accidents do occur, workers' compensation benefits may be available to injured workers. Workers' compensation benefits can help to pay for medical expenses and lost wages that occur as a result of the accident.
