Can Illinois car accident injuries cause PTSD?

When people think about traditional injures most people sustain in Illinois car accident, most think of physical injuries. It is true that things like whiplash, broken limbs and head injuries are oftentimes sustained in car accidents. But what about psychological injuries? Did you know that car accident injury victims can suffer from post traumatic stress disorder after involvement in a Illinois car accident?

Post traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, is a psychological condition that can develop after a person experiences or witnesses a fearful or life-threatening event. Believe it or not, car accidents are a leading cause of PTSD. Some factors that may trigger a PTSD response in a car accident victim include severity of injuries or if any fatalities were involved in the car accident. If recovery is slow-going and if the affected has a history of traumatic experiences can also increase the chances of a car accident injury victim developing PTSD.

If one was to receive compensation for PTSD, it would be sought under the general damages clause of personal injury law. It may not be easy to immediately calculate, in terms of damages, how PTSD has affected a person or will continue to affect them in the future. However, careful consideration can help to put a number on sought damages. These damages can help to remedy the affects of PTSD including treatment and the results of pain and suffering.

Many people only associate PTSD with war-victims. While many veterans do suffer from PTSD, it is not limited to only soldiers. Anyone who has had a traumatic event affect their like, like a car accident, can suffer from the effects of PTSD. Car accident injuries can off-set this in those that are involved or witness the accident.
