12 people injured in crash on Dan Ryan Expressway

Many of our readers in Elgin and northern Illinois probably commute to and around Chicago every day. For some, the Dan Ryan Expressway is a popular lane to travel. Unfortunately, with so much traffic in a major city like Chicago, there are bound to be some serious car accidents from time to time on such a busy roadway.

For instance, a recent report noted that several lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway were closed after an accident involving a dump truck and tour bus. The reports indicated that the accident occurred at approximately 10:45 a.m. Apparently, the tour bus slammed into the rear of the dump truck on the expressway. The driver of the bus was reportedly trapped in the wreckage for about 30 minutes before being freed.

In all, 12 people were transported away from the scene of the accident for medical treatment. Fortunately, none of the injuries that the victims suffered in the crash were considered to be life-threatening. The bus driver, however, was reportedly hospitalized in serious condition.

The reports do not indicate how this accident occurred, although it is noted that on the day in question there was some winter weather for drivers to deal with. A rear-end collision can occur for a variety of reasons, and no one should jump to place the blame on one party or the other until a full investigation of the accident is completed. For example, the dump truck driver may have slammed on his brakes for no reason, or the bus driver may have been distracted.

A carefully coordinated accident investigation should be able to make an initial determination of liability. And with a personal injury claim, injured victims are not only able to hold a negligent party accountable but also seek compensation for losses and damages suffered.
